HISTORICAL DAIRY FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT RESULTS - TOP THIRD vs BOTTOM THIRD

These figures show a comparison of the 12-month rolling average results of the top third and the bottom third of the group. The allocation into top and bottom third are based on a contributor's average net farm income, expressed as Rands per cow in herd monthly, over the 12 months to Feb of each year.

Please note that for comparative purposes, the figures below are expressed as Litres per cow in herd monthly. In other words, the unit of currency, rather than being rands, are the litres at that time. So, it may cost 55 litres per cow in herd monthly to pay labour in 1990 and say 60 litres in 2010, indicating a real increase in price relative to income.

Please feel free to make use of these figures as you see fit, we ask only that you acknowledge their source.

We sincerely thank those who have contributed figures over the years - without their data, this analysis would not be possible.
